In this game, you need at least four to five players. More the number of players; more is the fun. This game can be played indoor as well as outdoor.
How to play the cross the sea game?
Form the group, select one person to represent the New World. Make him stand on the chair. Make another person blindfold. Remaining children will pose as rocks. Now, the person who has been selected as the New World will guide the blindfolded person towards him. He will tell him the appropriate directions and guide him towards himself. If the blindfolded person manages to grasp the directions given by the New World and successfully comes towards that person, then he wins the game.
What is the idea behind the cross the sea game?
The game relates to how Thanksgiving tradition was brought to America. It is said that a group of English Separatists set out for a voyage to America in a ship which is called as Mayflower. The story goes that a few centuries ago, there was tremendous religious belief that was governing the people in England. The religious people over there thought that they are messengers of God and it is their duty to spread their message of God everywhere across the globe. Like minded people came together and formed a group and named it as Pilgrims. To escape the religious torture, these pilgrims set out to Netherland to breathe fresh air. They wanted to enjoy a better life which had a few religious restrictions. After spending two years over there, they got bored of their life style and thought it was too liberal. Hence, they thought of moving to.
America to enjoy better ways of living. They set out on a voyage to America in a ship called as Mayflower and arrived at Plymouth. Thus, in the game of cross the sea, the New World represents city of Plymouth and the blindfolded person represents the ship Mayflower. The person who is New World saves the ship or the blindfolded person from the rocks i.e. other children who are posed as rocks and struggling sea waves.
Thus, the game educates the children as how the tradition of Thanksgiving was brought to America while enjoying it. Adults can also get involved in the game along with their children. The family can have so much of fun, making your Thanksgiving Day more special.
